Staying Safe workshop

Everyone has the right to live free from abuse and neglect.

VALID has developed a workshop to help people with disability learn how they can stay safe.

The key message is that abuse and neglect is not okay!

Each information session runs for 90 minutes and includes practical advice on things people with disability can do to stay safe. There is also information about who people can talk to if they are feeling unsafe.

The sessions are conversation based and delivered in a way that is engaging and encourages participants to feel comfortable to learn and contribute to the conversation.

Topics covered during the workshop include:

  • · Financial abuse
  • · Neglect
  • · Emotional abuse
  • · Physical abuse
  • · Sexual abuse

Although these topics can be confronting they are discussed in a way that is sensitive and respectful.

The workshop includes eleven videos covering what is abuse and neglect, how to get help and how to help others remain safe from abuse and neglect. You can access the videos here
