DISABILITY RIGHTS ADVOCACY TRAINING

Aimed at people experienced in advocacy seeking to develop their understanding and their effectiveness this program uses the To Stand Beside: Advocacy for Inclusion Training Manual as a resource to promote the development of advanced advocacy skills, in a human rights model.

VALID provides training to people who support, assist or represent people with intellectual disability, including:

Presented by Kevin Stone, author of the ‘To Stand Beside: Advocacy for Inclusion Training Program’. Kevin is the founding Executive Officer of VALID - the Victorian Advocacy League for Individuals with a Disability - and has worked as an advocate and educator for the past twenty five years. He served as president of the National Council on Intellectual Disability for six years and represents people with intellectual disability and their families on numerous government advisory bodies and committees.

The parent of four children, one of whom has intellectual disability, Kevin has wide experience in advocating for the rights and interests of vulnerable people. The To Stand Beside Program is based on two key principles: Advocacy is for everyone! & Advocacy should be effective!
