Presenting at

Having a Say 2012

My Life - My Way

Having a Say has been supporting people to find their voice, to speak up, to be heard and to be respected.
This is the conference where people listen to each other, not just to the speakers on stage. This is the conference where people respect each other’s views and opinions, and celebrate their common cause.

Having a disability shouldn’t mean other people get to push you around, tell you what to do, or tell you how to live your life. Having a disability shouldn’t mean that you don’t get to choose who you live with, or where, or what kind of lifestyle you can have. The days of people with disability being treated as second class citizens are supposed to be over.

So how about you?

  • Are you in charge of your own decisions and choices?
  • Are you still waiting to be told what to do and when to do it?
  • Are other people still telling you how to live your life, and making you do it their way?

The 13th Annual Having a Say Conference will be a celebration of people with a disability who have decided to take matters into their own hands.

Telling the stories of self advocates who are making their own decisions and choices, taking responsibility for their own lives, and doing it their own way. Let your story be one of them!

We are happy to be able to again invite people with disabilities and disability groups to put in Expressions of Interest to present, perform or conduct a display for the 2012 Having a Say conference.

Below is a link to download an Expression of Interest form to assist with giving us information about your presentation, performance or display. If you need more room or to tell us anything else about your presentation, please use another sheet of paper.

Expressions of Interest close on the 5th of August 2011.

Important note: Presenters and performers still need to put in a registration for the conference.

Last year we received a large amount of Expressions of Interests and so we would also like to point out the priorities for successfully obtaining a place in the program.

Priority will be given to presentations/performances that:
•    involve people with disabilities in the planning
•    are presented / performed by people with disability
•    focus on the conference theme
•    are part of other initiatives to develop skills & leadership

If you need any more information or have questions please contact us either via email havingasay@valid.org.au or on 03 9416 4003 or freecall 1800 655 570. We look forward to receiving your Expressions of Interest.
